Over 700 km along the River Po across four regions on the VenTo cycle route

The length of this route immediately reflects the scale and ambition of this regional regeneration project, which involves upgrading existing riverside and country roads and cycle paths: over 700 kilometres along the banks of the River Po, from Venice to Turin. And it is precisely from these two cities that the VenTo Cycle Route takes its name; it is still under construction (completion is scheduled for the end of 2026) and forms an integral part of the EuroVelo 8 international cycle route, which stretches from Spain to Cyprus. The route runs mainly along the main river embankments, crossing four regions (Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont), 12 provinces and 120 municipalities, with a wide variety of scenery to discover stage by stage, from rural landscapes to protected nature reserves, from ancient villages to historic sites and places of cultural interest. For example, you cycle from the lagoon to Polesella, in the Polesine area, passing through the Lido di Venezia and the Po Delta before reaching Ferrara; you’ll discover the lowlands of Lombardy, zigzagging for over 300 km through the basins of Pavia, Lodi, Cremona and Mantua, where the route connects directly to the Ciclovia del Sole. Along the route, you pass through villages etched into the historical memory of our country for their palaces and castles, as well as for their traditional local dishes, such as Carmagnola, Gassino, Valenza, Arena Po, San Zenone, Zibello, Roccabianca, Colorno, Casalmaggiore, Brescello, Gualtieri, Guastalla, Ostiglia, Revere, Bondeno, Mesola and Contarina. Finally, a significant section of the VenTo cycle route runs through Piedmont, specifically the provinces of Alessandria and Vercelli, ending at the Turin Velodrome.
