Ten routes for exploring Italia and Europe on two wheels

The bicycle as a means of travel, as an opportunity to explore new areas at a leisurely pace, passing through villages and landscapes of all kinds, from the seaside to the mountains, whilst enjoying the thrill of the wind on your face and unique views. 3 June marks World Bicycle Day, an event established by the United Nations to promote a model of sustainable and inclusive mobility. Today, cycling is also the driving force behind a form of tourism that combines experiences, culture, nature and food and wine, and which continues to grow in Italia. According to data released by FIAB and Bicitalia.it, this sector is worth around €4.7 billion and could exceed €11 billion by 2033, whilst Isnart-Unioncamere recorded a total of 89 million cycling tourists in 2024. The summer season is already in full swing and one of the highlights for enthusiasts is just around the corner: the Green Road Award 2026, the Italian ‘Oscar’ of cycle tourism, which will be held on 19 June in Sanremo to honour Italy’s most beautiful cycle routes (last year’s winner was the Cycling Riviera) under a theme that perfectly captures the essence of travelling on two wheels: ‘silence’.
