Ten routes for exploring Italia and Europe on two wheels

Up and down South Tyrol, looking forward to the Bressanone Bike Festival

It is said that in South Tyrol, cycling is not merely a sport or an active holiday, but a way of experiencing the region; it is no coincidence that it is one of Europe’s leading destinations for cycle tourism. This is evident from the approximately 550 kilometres of cycle paths that wind through its valleys, medieval villages and Dolomite passes, often following the routes of old Alpine railways. Among the areas most loved by cyclists is, for example, the Val d’Ega: from May to October, mountain bike and e-bike trails link Nova Levante, Carezza, Nova Ponente and Obereggen, offering the chance for unforgettable tours such as the Latemar circuit. From 10 to 14 June, the Rosadira Bike Days are also back, offering guided excursions, technical workshops and tastings, whilst the Catinaccio massif turns pink at sunset with the Enrosadira phenomenon. Another top destination for cyclists is the Kronplatz Bike Park, where the fun lies in freeride, e-bike and downhill cycling, with access to the resort’s trails and the Piz de Plaies routes. Finally, Bressanone combines a focus on cycle tourism (the Munich-Venice and EuroVelo 7 routes pass through here) with its urban character, making the medieval old town the starting point for rides along the Isarco Valley, towards Novacella Abbey or towards the trails of the Brixen Bikepark on the iconic mountain of this region, the Plose. This unmissable event is scheduled for 17–20 September, when the city will host the first edition of the Südtirol Bike Festival: four days of guided tours, talks, tastings and innovation, open to all.
