Ten itineraries for discovering Italia and Europe on two wheels
Over 700 km along the Po between four regions with the VenTo cycle route
The length of this itinerary immediately reflects the size and ambition of this territorial regeneration project, which envisages the securing of embankment and country roads and existing cycle paths: over 700 kilometres along the banks of the river Po, from Venice to Turin. And it is precisely from these two cities that the VenTo cycle route takes its name, still nearing completion (completion is scheduled for the end of 2026) and an integral part of the EuroVelo 8 international cycle route from Spain to Cyprus. The route runs mainly along the main banks of the river, crossing four regions (Veneto, Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna and Piedmont), 12 provinces and 120 municipalities. The scenery to be discovered stage after stage is very diverse, from rural landscapes to protected nature reserves, from ancient villages to historical places of cultural interest. For example, one pedals from the lagoon to Polesella, in the Polesine region, passing through the Venice Lido and the Po Delta, arriving as far as Ferrara; one discovers the territories of the lower Lombardy region, zipping for over 300 km in the basins of Pavia, Lodi, Cremona and Mantua, where the route connects directly to the Ciclovia del Sole. Along the route we pass villages carved into the historical memory of our country for their palaces and castles, as well as for their traditional local dishes, such as Carmagnola, Gassino, Valenza, Arena Po, San Zenone, Zibello, Roccabianca, Colorno, Casalmaggiore, Brescello, Gualtieri, Guastalla, Ostiglia, Revere, Bondeno, Mesola, Contarina. Lastly, an important section of the VenTo cycle route covers Piedmont, and in particular the provinces of Alessandria and Vercelli, ending at the Motovelodromo in Turin.
