The rebirth of the eclectic Coral Baths next to the Station

When Livorno was a destination for high-ranking holidaymakers from all over Europe, after arriving by train at the Art Nouveau Central Station with its marble interiors embellished with stuccoes, they were taken to the Terme del Corallo. Inaugurated in 1904 to a design by Angiolo Badaloni, now this splendid structure in the shape of a hemicycle, consisting of the ballroom, the mescita hall and the study pavilion and water laboratories is undergoing renovation. It is not yet completed, but already very indicative of the beauty of this health resort where painted majolica tiles tell scenes of devotion to the power of water against a botanical backdrop of irises, horse chestnuts, pomegranates, willows, grapes and aloes. One can admire figures wrapped in oriental clothing representing the healing and salubrious value of water from a clearly visible well. The wall frescoes are also extraordinary, as are the decorative wrought-iron elements.
