Bays, cliffs and crystal clear sea: this is where to find the beach of your dreams
Apulia: San Foca, the legend of the Grotta degli Amanti
With the awarding of the Blue Flag 2025, Apulia is once again confirmed as the queen of the southern Italian seaside. The region conquers 27 award-winning locations, enriched by 3 new entries that further expand the panorama of dream beaches. Salento, land of sun, sea and wind, stands out. In the province of Lecce is San Foca, a small hamlet of Melendugno, known for its crystal-clear sea and sandy coastline, alternating with a few low cliffs. The beach the village overlooks is the 'Fontanelle' beach, flanked by the promenade. Along the coast there are coves, bays and other wonderful beaches, some equipped, others wilder and more unspoilt, such as those at Torre Specchia. In San Foca, there is also the famous Grotta degli Amanti, whose legend tells the story of two young men who took refuge there and died at high tide.
