Between historic farms and thousand-year-old larches in search of the authentic Val D'Ultimo
Slow pace along the valley encountering famous sanatoriums
Directly from the Oberhausgut farm, without taking the car, various hikes can be undertaken, and one of the most relaxing and affordable is the Ultner Höfeweg (Ultner Farmstead Trail), which runs for a total of around 17 km between the farmhouses of the various hamlets. The walk can be tackled in stages, for example by completing a loop between St. Gertrude and St. Nikola, and runs gently through woods and meadows, offering the chance to admire from above the conformation of the valley and its identity traits, starting with the many farms encountered along the way.
One of the most historic and significant is Hartungshausen, built as a sanatorium in the early 1900s and frequented by artists and scientists such as Sigmund Freud, Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka and Cesare Lombroso, among others.
