Experience on a Red Rooster Farm
If you want to experience Val d'Ultimo in its most authentic form, the experience of staying on a Gallo Rosso farm is probably the ideal solution, as well as being absolutely affordable. The model is the same for all the brand's facilities: no more than five flats (or 8 rooms) per farm, guaranteed privacy and tranquillity, the feeling of being at home and being in contact with a real agricultural reality, with the added treat of a farmer's breakfast (based on homemade and local products) that has few equals in other accommodation facilities. The experience at the Maso Gallo Rosso Oberhausgut, set on a gentle slope at the edge of the forest in the hamlet of San Gertrude, is in fact something more than accommodation in spacious, cosy and well-maintained flats (the original building dates back to the end of the 19th century and in 2005 it was extended with a second structure that also includes the home of the owners, the Gamper family).
Here you can feel the pleasure of being in contact with nature on a farm where work in the cowshed, meadows and forest mark the rhythm of the day and become opportunities for recreation and socialising, from looking after the animals (the cowshed is open for visits at selected times) to the work of cutting and storing grass and wood, to the activities (including children's games) to be conducted outdoors. The highlight of the Oberhausgut farm is the sauna and relaxation area in the hay room, with large windows looking towards the village of San Gertrude, the meadows and in the distance the peaks of the Zufrittspitze and the Hintere Eggenspitze. Still in Val d'Ultimo, at an altitude of 1,750 metres in the hamlet of San Nicola, there is another historic Gallo Rosso farm, the Unterschweighof, first mentioned in a document dating back to 1423 and from whose organic production comes a cheese with the seal of quality of the brand: from the farm it is easy to reach the Schwemmalm, the starting point for hikes to some of the valley's best-known peaks.
