Events, experiences and more: Journey to Olympic venues 'away' from the competitions
From Valdisotto to Santa Caterina Valfurva, amid nature and traditions
The area surrounding Bormio is synonymous with traditions and strong gastronomic culture (from pizzoccheri to bresaola) that reflect a landscape shaped by centuries of mountain agriculture: a day out in Valdisotto (with a stop at the Baita Morin refuge, in the Oga-San Colombano area), in Valdidentro (in the hamlet of Arnoga you can go sleddog-sledding in the snow pulled by husky dogs) or in Val di Rezzalo (starting from Fumero, just above Sondalo) brings this dimension to life, amidst less populated corners and still authentic views. And then, for those who love skiing, cross-country skiing (45 km of slopes available) immersed in nature and who like to experience the magic of the snow walking alone in the woods or under the stars (every Friday until the end of March, mountaineer Marco Confortola organises night hikes), there is nearby Santa Caterina Valfurva, home of Olympic champion Deborah Compagnoni. In the village, until 30 March, there is the exhibition 'White Gold - A history of community sport', which tells the story of the link between Alta Valtellina and winter disciplines through objects of mountain life, archive photographs, equipment and five-ringed memorabilia.
