Walk to Alpe Larecchio and the Ospizio Sottile hut
The origins of the Rifugio Ospizio Sottile, located along the ancient road that led merchants and seasonal emigrants from the Duchy of Milan to the Aosta Valley and France, date back to the 18th century. It is the highest Alpine hospice in the Alps, and can be reached either from Gressoney-Saint-Jean or from Alagna Valsesia, passing through Alpe Larecchio on a hike suitable for less experienced walkers, which also touches on the renowned Agriturismo Larecchio. Along the path, amidst larch trees and streams, you will come across wooden huts blackened by time and, having reached the alpine pasture, you will be greeted by intense aromas: this is the realm of toma cheese, a raw-milk cheese produced directly on site.
