From Piedmont to Friuli, the pleasure of skiing (and snowshoeing) in the March sunshine
Between Val Fiscalina and Meridiana di Sesto, Nordic March at the Three Peaks
Here, skiing has a natural compass: the Sundial of Sesto, the profile of the peaks marking the hours with the movement of the sun. We are in the 3 Cime Dolomiti ski area between the villages of Sesto, San Candido, Dobbiaco, Villabassa and Braies, with 115 kilometres of blue, red and black downhill slopes and panoramic slopes that benefit from longer days and more light in March. Monte Elmo and Croda Rossa are the main poles: here there is an alternation of beginner and more technical tracks, areas for children and tobogganing, as well as a network of refuges that accompany après-ski at altitude. Downhill skiing is accompanied by cross-country skiing, with about 60 km of tracks dedicated to narrow skis: the Fiscalina Valley Ring (one of the most evocative natural corridors in South Tyrol in winter, perfect for snowshoeing and walking on groomed tracks at the foot of the Dolomite walls) runs for 4.5 kilometres in a fairy-tale landscape with a view of the Meridiana, while the Prato Piazza track at 2,000 metres above sea level offers a 6.5 km ring that is also frequented by international athletes. One of the events not to be missed is the Südtirol Helmissimo 3 Zinnen Dolomites, scheduled for 21 March, a giant slalom starting at an altitude of 2,030 metres and finishing in Versciaco at an altitude of 1,125. And finally, for those in search of wellness, the right address for a panoramic sauna session, aufguss rituals and sulphate water courses is the Bad Moos Aqua Spa Resort, right next to the Croda Rossa, which in March offers the "Dolomiti Ski Paradise" package with accommodation and ski pass included.
