From Piedmont to Abruzzo: the snow season kicks off with downhill runs, snowshoeing and wellness
Alto Sangro - Roccaraso, the beautiful mountains of the Centre South
A reference destination for central and southern Italy and for those looking for a well-equipped mountain for skiing and more, even far from the Alps: located among the plateaus and hills of the central Abruzzo Apennines, this ski resort unites the towns of Roccaraso and Rivisondoli (together with Pescocostanzo, Pescasseroli and others) in a single vast circuit served by a shared ski pass and 24 lifts including cable cars, chairlifts and ski lifts. The winter season starts on 6 December and will end on 29 March 2026 and the available slopes cover about 90 km from an altitude of about 1,310 metres up to 2,141 m, equally distributed between beginner, intermediate and (about 21 km) expert skiers' tracks. Another of the prerogatives of the district - which also connects resorts such as Aremogna, Monte Pratello, Pizzalto and Toppe del Tesoro, expanding the skiable area to 110 km - is the programmed snowmaking system of 165 snow cannons, which makes almost all the slopes accessible even in the absence of heavy snowfall. In addition to alpine skiing, in Roccaraso and Alto Sangro you can practice cross-country skiing, try your hand at freeriding and snowkiting, and indulge in total relaxation among accommodation facilities, wellness centres and mountain refuges.
