From Piedmont to Abruzzo: the snow season kicks off with downhill runs, snowshoeing and wellness
From Madesimo to Montespluga: the magical winter of Valchiavenna
A winter season made up of diversified experiences to be enjoyed between the resorts of Madesimo and Alpe Motta, Campodolcino and the area leading up to the Spluga Pass. The Skiarea Valchiavenna has 40 km of slopes distributed between 1,500 and 3,000 metres of altitude in the Val di Lei, which is currently inaccessible due to the ongoing work on the new cable car, which will become operational in 2027. The convenience of reaching the slopes (20 blue, 16 red and 3 black, in addition to the famous Canalone, one of the most famous off-piste runs in the Alps) directly from the village without a shuttle bus is, however, invaluable and goes hand in hand with the variety and beauty of the tracks, some of which are carved out of the woodland that descends to the valley. For snowboarders and freestylers there is the Madepark, divided into two areas, while for children there is the Larici Baby-park. One of the prerogatives of Madesimo is the excellent value for money: if the day pass in high season costs 57 euro, the various promotions allow you to significantly reduce the cost of skiing, such as RidottoDì (30% discount on Tuesdays and Thursdays), the Promo Neve divided into three periods (until 24 December, from 7 to 30 January and from 16 March to 12 April) which includes the ski pass in the stay at participating establishments and the promo for university students. In the nearby Valgerola, the ski area has 12 km of slopes and the daily holiday pass costs 34 euro (the weekday pass is 23, with concessionary formulas for shorter passes). The menu of activities to enjoy on the snow without skiing is very wide: from the night-time "Ciaspolando sotto le stelle" (snowshoeing under the stars) to the slow itineraries of the Altopiano degli Andossi (Andossi Plateau) that lead to Montespluga, in a scenario of uncontaminated nature. This is where Homeland Explore is active, a project dedicated to ski mountaineering, splitboarding and freeriding with training activities and accompanied outings, while Team Adventure Madesimo offers snowmobile tours through the woods and the frozen lake of Montespluga, where snowkiting, a discipline that combines kitesurfing and skiing or snowboarding by exploiting the buoyancy of the wind, is also practised.
