From Piedmont to Abruzzo: the snow season kicks off with downhill runs, snowshoeing and wellness
In Cortina and Arabba to experience the Olympics up close
The season in Cortina officially starts on 4 December and will last until 3 May, with its 26 ski lifts ready to take tourists to the ski areas of the valley - the Faloria Cristallo, the Tofane and Lagazuoi 5 Torri (this year's novelty is the 'Skyline Cortina' cableway, which will further simplify ski-to-ski travel between the sectors of the district) or to the Dolomiti Superski circuit. During the Olympic and Paralympic Games, about 90 of the total 120 km of the ski area will be available, and while waiting for the start of the rainbow competitions, the Queen of the Dolomites will welcome snow tourists with other international level competitions, such as the VISA FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup scheduled for 13 December on the Faloria slopes. In addition to alpine skiing, the Cortina winter will, as always, also be marked by ski mountaineering and snowshoeing as well as lifestyle, wellness and gastronomic events and initiatives designed for those seeking an all-round holiday in the snow. If Cortina should be "off limits" because of the Games, a valid alternative for those who would still like to spend a skiing holiday in the Belluno Dolomites during the period of the Games is the Arabba Marmolada ski area, one of the most evocative and complete of the Dolomiti Superski system with its 63 km of slopes stretching between 1,446 and 3,342 metres above sea level on the Marmolada glacier. The gateway to the Sellaronda (for which the new 10-seater 'Lezuo - Belvedere' gondola lift at the Pordoi Pass will come into operation), this ski area is a paradise for those looking for challenging slopes, spectacular scenery and snowparks with freestyle facilities, all seasoned with the hospitality of Ladin tradition.
