From Piedmont to Abruzzo: the snow season kicks off with downhill runs, snowshoeing and wellness
Courmayeur: luxury, sport and gourmet experiences
Set in the Alps, against the spectacular backdrop of Mont Blanc, Courmayeur offers a rich array of exciting activities throughout the winter season, which officially opened on 29 November, but it is from 7 December that the great carousel (over 100 km of slopes) will complete its offer. There is anticipation for the launch of the legendary SkyWay, with which you can almost touch the sky. For those coming in winter, there is an embarrassment of riches, and its fame (it adheres to Association of Altagamma Territories.) is linked precisely to the great offer: sports activities on the snow of all kinds, cultural events (among others, the Courmayeur Design Weekend 2026 from 12 to 15 February) and lots of music (Music at High Altitude" in January). Iconic are its slopes that extend for over 100 km between groomed trails and off-piste, satisfying experts looking for technical challenges, novices or snowboard and freeride enthusiasts. Those who love cross-country skiing in Val Ferret will have more than 20 km to ride through snow-covered forests, listening to the silence, while those who prefer two wheels can try snow biking and fat biking. There are many itineraries on foot that allow you to exercise and relax in the quiet alpine setting, starting with the classic walk on beaten snow that runs alongside the cross-country ring, for a total of 3.5 km between Planpincieux and Lavachey. A particularly impressive hike is the one from the Ermitage to La Suche, an approximately 3 km long trail through a forest of fir and larch trees. For a completely exclusive experience, there is heli-skiing: taking off directly into the heart of the Alps, skiers, accompanied by certified mountain guides, are transported in just a few minutes over unspoilt slopes, through gullies and expanses of fresh snow where they can draw curves in freedom. One of the destination's plus points is its top-level food and wine scene, which ranges from world-famous gourmet restaurants to more traditional offerings that enhance the rich Aosta Valley tradition. For example, Chaumière pampers guests directly on the slopes at Plan Checrouit and always with skis on one's feet one reaches Chateau Branlant, which welcomes 'gourmet skiers' in its chalet. A special address is L'Auberge de La Maison in Entrèves, where the restaurant is a treasure trove of tradition and taste. For those who want to spend the evening and night close to the ski lifts to ski at dawn there is Au Coeur des Neiges while an unmistakable apreski is at SuperG.
