From Piedmont to Abruzzo: the snow season kicks off with downhill runs, snowshoeing and wellness

6/15Weekend

Pila starts again with the revolutionary Pila-Couis gondola

Pila

From the centre of the ancient Roman city of Aosta to the snow-covered basin of Pila, in an area that is a mosaic of landscapes, histories and cultures, just a few minutes away, one climbs up to the 2,700 metres of Couis, with a view that sweeps from the glaciers of Mont Blanc to the peaks of Monte Rosa, as far as Grivola and Gran Paradiso. All in about 30 minutes - this is the most eagerly awaited novelty of the winter season, which from 5 December will see Pila take centre stage. The new Aosta-Pila-Couis cableway will allow skiers and hikers to reach the most panoramic peaks and enjoy a breathtaking 360° view of the giants of the Alps. The new system revolutionises access to the high altitude and opens Pila to all travellers wishing to connect with the mountain, significantly improving the distribution of flows of skiers and visitors. At high altitude, to welcome visitors, there will be the Star of Pila with panoramic terraces, an accessible observation point and interior spaces housing the Panoramic Bistro. With about 70 kilometres of tracks, the ski area offers a variety to satisfy every type of skier and snowboarder with slopes that develop in a natural amphitheatre exposed to the sun and where natural snowfall is supported by a system of programmed snow covering almost the entire skiable domain. Pila dedicates ample space to neophytes, intermediate and expert skiers, also offering dedicated areas for snowboarding and freestyle and safe routes for off-piste skiing and ski mountaineering. There is no lack of slow-paced activities, immersed in nature with beaten footpaths and snowshoeing routes, both day and night, allowing you to explore the winter landscape at a leisurely pace.
