Sappada and Zoncolan between sport, nature and slow pace experiences

The 2025/2026 ski season in Friuli-Venezia Giulia will start on 6 December in most of its ski areas, Ravascletto/Zoncolan, Sappada, Sauris and Sella Nevea-Kanin. It is scheduled to close on 22 March, with the exception of Sella Nevea, which will extend until 6 April.

For winter sports enthusiasts, the small Sappada district offers pistes suitable for all levels of technical preparation, private lessons for beginners with qualified instructors, and the possibility of practising cross-country skiing along the Cima Sappada and Stadio del Fondo rings, which also run inside the village campsite. For those who enjoy sports in winter without skis on their feet, in addition to snowshoeing and ski mountaineering routes, the attraction not to be missed is ice climbing, a growing discipline that finds one of its most interesting natural settings in the area. An idea for a stay to experience a skiing holiday in Sappada in close contact with nature comes from Eirl Dolomites Retreat, a facility nestled between the Carnic Alps and the Pesarine Dolomites that will reopen to guests on 5 December. Among the outdoor activities on offer are immersive walks along beaten paths through alder woods and (every Thursday evening except during the holiday period) a night-time torchlight procession with an open-air bonfire and mulled wine.
