Start of the snow season in Trentino Alto Adige: where to go and all the news

8/14Weekend

At 3,000 metres on the Solda glacier with a view of Ortles and Gran Zebrù

As always among the first Italian ski areas to open the winter season, the ski resort of Solda all'Ortles opened its doors on 1 November and will remain open until 3 May. What makes this ski resort unique is quickly said: slopes that are above 2,600 metres above sea level, and therefore certain to enjoy natural snow even at this time of year, and a panorama dotted with 14 peaks over 3,000 metres, starting with those of the Ortles Group and Gran Zebrù. The ski area is located in the Stelvio National Park and offers a total of 44 km of tracks for all types of skiers; from now on, it is possible to ski on the open-field tracks drawn on the glacier, while in late winter, the tracks drawn on the valley slopes and served by the Rosim and Pulpito cableways and the Orso and De Alpes chairlifts will also be available. In Solda, there is no shortage of routes for freeride and telemark enthusiasts and even a small funpark for boardercross specialists, while lovers of unspoilt nature will have several routes available for ski mountaineering until late spring. Down in the valley, in the small village centre, a visit to the Messner Mountain Museum Ortles, with a series of memorabilia dedicated to the history of the mountain and the great South Tyrolean mountaineer, is not to be missed.
