Start of the snow season in Trentino Alto Adige: where to go and all the news
In Val di Fiemme to breathe Olympic scent
The highlights of the winter season are two: the Olympic Games scheduled from 6 to 22 February and the Paralympics scheduled from 6 to 15 March. The Val di Fiemme will host the cross-country skiing, Nordic combined and special jump competitions, as well as the cross-country skiing and biathlon competitions for athletes with disabilities, and presents itself at the two appointments by flaunting the beauty of the surrounding Dolomite peaks, starting with the Latemar spires, recognised by Unesco as a 'Natural World Heritage Site'. For lovers of alpine skiing, it is the ideal starting point for three different ski areas. The most popular is Fiemme-Obereggen with its 48 km of slopes connecting Pampeago, Predazzo and the Val d'Ega resort. In the Bellamonte-Alpe Lusia ski area, on the other hand, you can ski caressing the borders of the Paneveggio Pale di S. Martino Natural Park and a stop not to be missed is at the new Ciamp de le Strie, a restaurant with a large panoramic terrace overlooking the Lagorai chain. Finally, in the Skiarea Alpe Cermis, the main attractions are the Olimpia slope, a 7.5 km downhill run that offers one of the most breathtaking views of the Dolomites, and the Busabella red slope with the Lo Chalet refuge, in Forcella di Bombasel at an altitude of 2,170 m, where you can taste the specialities of Trentino cuisine. Val di Fiemme, nonetheless, is synonymous with Nordic skiing: lovers of this speciality can try their hand on the tracks of the Altipiano di Lavazé and Lago di Tesero, which intersect with those of the Marcialonga and the rings of Bellamonte to offer something like 150 km of slopes.
