Start of the snow season in Trentino Alto Adige: where to go and all the news
In Val Gardena for the spectacle of the Dolomites and the art of woodworking
One of the most beautiful, evocative and attractive theatres in the Dolomites is ready to welcome tourists and enthusiasts after having completed some important structural work, such as the new underground snow basin at Monte Pana and the upgrading of the snowmaking system on the final section of the Ciampinoi slope 3. The opening of the lifts is scheduled for 4 December with closure set for 7 April and, as always, access on skis to the slopes of the Sellaronda and the Alpe di Siusi with Dolomiti Superski (the Superpremière promotion valid until 20 December provides 4 overnight stays and 4 days of ski pass with equipment hire for the price of 3). The scenery awaiting beginners, experts and snow lovers is always the unique and majestic scenery of the Sassolungo Group, the Sella and the Puez-Odle Nature Park. All in all, Val Gardena offers winter sports enthusiasts around 500 km of downhill and toboggan runs (including the legendary World Cup Saslong, which this year will see athletes competing in the Super-G on 19 December and the downhill on the following day), 30 km of hiking trails (the Seceda being the most popular) and 115 km of cross-country skiing trails. Considered one of the most tradition-rich mountain regions in the world, this Ladin valley has another soul to offer visitors and that is the art of wood carving, which can be found in the shops of Ortisei and Selva Val Gardena. Dulcis in fundo, the Christmas markets and events that will fill the days and evenings around New Year's Eve with snow sculpture competitions (in Selva from 27 to 30 December), DJ sets, torchlight processions and drone shows.
