On the Plose between sport and gastronomy with a view of Brixen

The mountain of Brixen, which rises over 2,500 metres above the roofs of the episcopal city and is the beating heart of all outdoor experiences, is a place that is loved in every season, but it is perhaps in winter that it manages to express its true essence. The new snow season baptizes the reopening of a historic reception structure (the original construction dates back to 1887) such as the CAI Plose Refuge, located at 2,447 metres and completely renovated also in the area of the rooms, and with the opening of the lifts scheduled for 5 December, the new cableway (inaugurated in 2023) will also come into operation, taking skiers, snowboarders, sledders, hikers and snowshoe lovers directly from the town in just a few minutes. The Plose slopes stretch over 40 km and the highlight of the ski area is the black Trametsch, which at 9 km is one of the longest downhill runs in South Tyrol: it starts at 2,050 metres in Kreuztal (where you can have lunch at the La Finestra restaurant and the s'Stübele) and ends at the valley station at 979 metres. In addition to skiing and sledging, the great attraction of winter on the Plose are indeed its huts, from those at altitude such as the Ackerbodenalm, which can be reached on a walk through the St. Leonhard woods, to those in the valley such as Plosestodl and Ban Rutzner. And then there is the historic Vallazza Après-Ski Bar, active since 1924, the Rossalm, a gourmet destination where the famous Bratapfel Spritz is served, the Pfannspitzhütte with its grilled specialities, and the Berghotel Schlemmer with its refined dishes served on the panoramic terrace. And for those who want to fill themselves with silence and freedom, the date not to be missed is from 7 January to 11 March, every Wednesday, with guided snowshoe hikes up to the Halslhütte, on the south side of the Plose, at the foot of the Odle di Eores.
