Start of the snow season in Trentino Alto Adige: where to go and all the news
The Magic of Winter in the Ahrntal Valley
The date to mark in your calendar is 5 December, when also in this South Tyrolean valley, one of the least frequented by skiers and one of the most committed to sustainability (the area received the international GSTC, Global Sustainable Tourism Council, certification a year ago), the ski lifts of the Klausberg (technical slopes, snow park for children and fan area for snowboarders and freeriders), Speikboden, (wide slopes ideal for families and intermediate skiers with a breathtaking view of the Vedrette di Ries), Weissenbach and Rein-Riva di Tures will open. The Skiworld Ahrntal, this is the name of the ski area, is a natural paradise that with a single ski pass gives access to 86 kilometres of slopes and 21 ski lifts, between 950 and 2,510 metres above sea level, with programmed snowfall that guarantees full skiability until the beginning of April. All of this is topped off by cross-country skiing circuits, sledding tracks and snowshoeing trails leading to high-altitude Alpine huts where you can enjoy the flavours of the local cuisine. The seasonal novelty is the new Bernard Glück chairlift powered by a photovoltaic system and electricity from only renewable sources. A place to stay that fully respects the philosophy of tourism in perfect harmony with the environment of the Aurina Valley is the OLM Nature Escape aparthotel in Caminata di Tures, a vaguely extraterrestrial structure (also GSTC-certified) with a circular shape made of glass, wood and stone whose essential characteristic is the water that defines the wellness rituals of the saunas, the Kneipp path and the Spa.
